Why Surrogacy?
by Stephanie - July 6th, 2012.Filed under: Surrogacy.
Hello there! My name is Stephanie and I am a first time Gestational Surrogate. When I first starting telling family and friends about my decision to be a surrogate I had a lot of mixed reactions. The most frequent comments of course were, ‘why are you doing this?”, and, “I could never do that!” Well first off… I am doing this because I want to give an amazing gift to someone who can not have children of their own. Second, YES YOU CAN! Why not? To some people, surrogacy seems like something you would see in a sci-fi movie, or something that is so uncommon that it wouldn’t fit into the social “norm”. Well, I’m here to challenge that way of thinking. I am here to ask the question, “why not do this?” Yes not everyone has easy pregnancies, or safe pregnancies and that is an important variable to consider. But for those of us who have had healthy pregnancies, why not give someone the gift of love and a family? After having my son and falling so deeply in love with him, I couldn’t imagine life without him. It would be empty and meaningless. The thought of anyone not being able to have what I have was just, unacceptable. The thought that there were families of all different varieties out there wanting kids so badly and not being able to have them was so unfair! I wanted to do something about it. So here I am, about to embark on the most exciting, challenging and rewarding experience of my life. I hope that this blog opens peoples eyes to surrogacy. My dream is for surrogacy to become something that is a societal norm and that everyone can feel comfortable doing. I want to share with you my journey for what it is, the good the bad and the ugly. Let’s do this!!

lol well technically I couldn’t be a surrogate until I had a kid of my own, but it is kind of interesting. I’ll definitely keep my eye on this blog to see how it all turns out for you, Steph.

You are amazing! I think this happens alot more than people realize. I think you are special in your ability to be selfless about this though. I don’t think many people can keep their head about them to do something so amazing for someone else. I loooooooove you Steph and I hope everyone supports you and makes you feel as amazing about this as the family you’re about to help create does.

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a tough time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

No problem, I’m happy to answer any and all questions. I bought a domain name through godaddy.com and through that started a WordPress. It’s very easy to use. I hope this helps!

I have two beautiful children because of incredibly wonderful people like you. A good friend donated her eggs and an anonymous donor donated his sperm and I got to gestate the embryos and deliver healthy babies (about 4 years apart). But that all seems SO long ago and the way that our family came into being is sort of eclipsed by our daily lives, although we do think of our friend and her family with lots of love!!
I’m sure that the family who will raise the baby knows how incredibly lucky they are. Congratulations, Stefanie, for making the decision to be a surrogate! And I’m glad you have so much support, too!

It is so great to hear your story, thank you for sharing! It’s so powerful that we have the ability to help one another out like this. Either donating egg and sperm or carrying a baby. I do have lots of support, it would be so difficult without it.
